SIVIGLIA

The World Games which are taking place in Seville during the summer of 2006 (see http:/www.sevilla2006.com) include some not Olympics Sports varieties which promote the mistreatment to animals, among them the one that is possibly cruelest: hunting with greyhonds.
(The Spanish Federations of nonOlympic Sports, recognized by the Superior Council of Sports, are represented in the Spanish Olympic Committee by their Presidents, who are born members of their Assembly. In addition, these Presidents, along with the President of the COE, the Vice-president 1º, the Secretary General and the Treasurer, compose the Meeting of nonOlympic Federations. Among these Federations, those that protect cruel activities for animals are: Subaqueous (submarine fishing), Hunting (drive, falconry, etc….), Colombicultura (aids of “goad”), Greyhonds (opened field, races), Fishing (diverse modalities of sport fishing), and Shot to Flight (shot to pigeon).
Meanwhile lots of animal associations and spanish organizations are carrying out campaigns against the hunting with greyhounds due to the awful consequences for the animals when these can not hunt (see http:/www.sosgalgos.com or http:/www.galgosinfronteras.org), these games try to disguise these cruel practices as authentic sports disciplines.
We would like to show to the International Olympic Committee, institutions and sponsor companies, our rebuff and indignation because of the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Superior Council of Sports guarantee such Federations as sport, when they are activities of animal mistreatment.
